What you will need:
- 1 large fresh aloe vera leaf
- a knife and spoon
- a bowl of cold water
- a blender
How to prepare your fresh aloe vera
Step 1: Drain the yellow latex
Wash your aloe leaf and cut about an inch off the thick bottom end. Stand it upright in a glass with the cut end facing down.
Leave it for 10–15 minutes to let the yellow sap drain out. This yellow latex can irritate your skin, so you don't want it in your mask!

Step 2: Remove the spiky edges
Lay your aloe leaf flat on a cutting board and carefully trim off both spiky sides.

Step 3: Slice it open
Slice the leaf open
Avoid scraping the yellow layer immediately underneath the skin.

Step 4: Scoop it out & Rinse the gel
Place your clear aloe gel in a bowl
Rinse thoroughly under running water to remove any remaining yellow residue. Discard any gel with visible yellow latex.

Step 5: Blend until smooth
Add your clear aloe gel to a blender and blend until completely smooth. You can put it in a blender.
Your aloe vera mask is ready!
How to use it as a scalp and hair mask
Apply the freshly blended aloe gel directly to your scalp, gently massaging it in with your fingertips.
Work the remaining gel through the lengths of your hair, concentrating on your dry ends.
Leave the mask on for 20 minutes.
You can use shampoo and conditioner afterwards as usual.
BONUS: Use the leftover aloe as a face mask!
Don't throw away your extra aloe!
Apply a thin layer of the freshly prepared gel to clean skin for a hydrating face mask.
Aloe's moisture-binding properties help your skin retain water, while its soothing compounds can calm mild irritation.
Leave it on for 10-20 minutes, rinse with cool water and follow with your favorite moisturizer.
